Our Accessibility Goals
- Clear heading structure and plain, readable language.
- Keyboard access to navigation, forms, dialogs, and interactive controls.
- Readable text contrast and visible focus indicators.
- Alternative text or equivalent context for informative images.
- Captions, transcripts, or alternatives for important audio and video when practical.
- Responsive layouts that work on desktop, tablet, and mobile.
- Forms with labels, instructions, error identification, and accessible consent controls.
- Links whose purpose can be understood from their text or context.
Current Work
Accessibility is an ongoing process. The August 21, 2026 audit identified items requiring improvement, including cookie-dialog semantics, duplicate identifiers, page landmarks, form configuration, and mobile obstruction from the current cookie notice. Those items are being addressed as the site is rebuilt.
Keyboard Navigation
Patriot Raw intends for primary navigation, search, policy links, article controls, and forms to be usable without a mouse. Keyboard focus should remain visible and follow a logical order. Interactive controls should not trap focus unless an accessible modal is intentionally open.
Images and Media
Informative photographs and graphics should receive meaningful alternative text. Decorative images should use empty alternative text so screen readers can skip them. Captions and credits should identify important context and source information. AI-generated or materially altered imagery should be labeled.
Readable Design
The planned design uses a white background, dark navy navigation, red accents, strong black headlines, and clean sans-serif body text. Color should not be the only way information is communicated, and text should remain usable when enlarged or viewed on a small screen.
Accessible Forms
Forms should include programmatic labels, clear required-field indicators, understandable errors, a keyboard-accessible consent checkbox, and spam protection that does not create an unreasonable accessibility barrier.
Third-Party Content
Some linked or embedded third-party services may not be controlled by Patriot Raw. The publication will seek accessible alternatives or explanatory context when a significant third-party barrier is identified.
